Esther Ward's drawings are influenced by folklore and ancestry. The truths, superstitions, and idiosyncrasies found in a people's cultural history help to shape the interests, themes, and content of her work. Combining historical and contemporary images, she reconstructs folktales and histories, in the same way cultural histories can become skewed or fictitious over time.

Ward earned a BA in drawing from The University of Nebraska at Omaha. She currently lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she is a graduate student of Art History at the University of Nebraska.
